Relapsing Polychondritis Awareness and Support Foundation Inc. (RPASF) is pleased to join the Race for RP, a platinum sponsor for the upcoming PV Concours, to increase awareness about relapsing polychondritis, a debilitating autoimmune disease that attacks a patient’s cartilage.
Torrance, California – September 19, 2018 – RPASF and Race for RP continue their drive to increase awareness about relapsing polychondritis, an autoimmune disease, with an announcement that they will join forces at the upcoming Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance (also known as PV Concours) on September 30, 2018.
The Race for RP number 153 Ferrari 488 Challenge car will be on display at the PV Concours, and its owner and driver, Neil Langberg of the Scuderia Corsa team, will be at the event to meet guests.
“I am delighted that my husband, Neil, is such a strong supporter and advocate for me, along with other relapsing polychondritis patients, clinical researchers, and the autoimmune disease community. We are incredibly grateful that his team and our racing friends are so caring and generous. Through their support, we have been able to launch programs that directly benefit patients with RP and their families,” said Nancy Linn, Chair of RPASF’s board of directors.
“The Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance is a fantastic event for families to see a world-class exhibition of classic cars and airplanes; it’s also an exciting opportunity to raise awareness about relapsing polychondritis and boost public support in working toward a cure.”
At the 2017 PV Concours, Langberg sat in the Ferrari 488 Challenge car on display by Ferrari South Bay for the first time; he then subsequently purchased it. Shortly after, he was racing the 488 in his third season in the Ferrari Challenge series.
In June, supporting the Grand Prix du Canada at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Langberg raced the 488 with its distinctive Race for RP livery in the Ferrari Challenge – going on to claim the final step on the podium in his class.
The 25th Annual Concours’ theme is “California Style,” and will showcase cars that have contributed to the California car culture, with featured marques including California Coachwork as well as Ferrari. The event will take place between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm (PDT) on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Zamperini Field in Torrance. Visitors can also view a wider selection of classic cars and airplanes. More information, tickets, and pricing are available direct from PV Concours.
The event has attracted many sponsors, of which two – Medawar Fine Jewelers and Ferrari South Bay – already have links to the RP community. RPASF’s chair, Nancy Linn, is featured in the movie RP: The Ride of My Life, which premiered at Ferrari South Bay on November 7, 2015.
The movie, directed and produced by Roy Medawar and Dangling Carrot Pictures, follows Linn’s struggle with RP and the difficult journey her family took over many years. Starting with her fight against debilitating pain and finding a diagnosis, it shows the courage of sufferers in a world largely unaware of the rare autoimmune disease – and how Linn’s own struggle led her to a greater purpose of helping others with the disease to fight for recognition, treatment, and a cure.
“It’s going to be a fantastic day with plenty of things to see and do,” added David DeRosa, a Director of RPASF. “This is an incredible opportunity to see some classic airplanes and California style automobiles and boost RP awareness. We’re hoping for a large, engaged crowd and look forward to visiting with everyone who attends.”
